Mood Formula
Feeling down or depressed? Ever wonder why sometimes you're happy in spite of whatever? Here's a formula that might help you explain why. I read this article in The Star Tribune dated 23 January 2006 entitled "Feeling Down Today? Formula Explains Why" by Shelley Emling CNS.
We can thank Cliff Arnall, a health psychologist at the University of Cardiff in Wales for developing the formula:
1/8W + (D-d)3/8 x TQ
____________________
M x NA
Where:
W = Weather
D = Debt
d = Monthly Salary
T = Time since Christmas, time since failure to Q
Q = Quit a bad habit
M = low (M)otivational levels
NA = Need to take action
According to our psychologist January 26 is the gloomiest day of 2006. Being just after the holidays we are now thinking about incurred expenses during the season, fewer or no parties to look forward to and coping with the weather.
The happiest day of 2006?...... June 23 according to his calculations...approximately just five months away. We'll just have to wait....and see.

Week Past 1/23-29
Finally got done with pre-inventory count Friday early morning. Went home at 5:30 am. Had to go back and work from 12:00 pm to 8:30 pm to get my full 40 hours for the week. Back to day shift and already I got issues that needs to be resolved with the team. I don't know but overnights is so tedious.
Saturday was spent looking at lots and model homes. It's raining!!! so even the weatherman is baffled. Unusual for January and the temp is mild just like spring. Met with Jerry B at Prior Lake to inspect a lot with a lake view. Then met with Lydia to discuss house plan for Shakopee. Everything is iffy. Expensive.

Week Past 01/16-22
Still working overnight. Monday night driving was a pain. It snowed early evening and the roads were not plowed. My partner at work called in so I did not accomplish much at work. They also took the scissor jack thingy that night.
Saturday was lunch at Cam Rahn Bay Resto with Jay-Jovi-Jenna and Keith-Lynette. Then met with Jerry B to check out model homes. Lot prices have gone crazy ranging from $160G to $220G. When we bought ours five years ago it was in the vicinity of $30Gs. We checked out one of the model homes tagged for $1.3M, it was ooohhhsuumm. Got to win the lottery.
Congratulations to Manny Pacquiao!!! Knocking out Mexico's Erik Morales in the 10th round of their super featherweight non title bout Saturday at Las Vegas. He's $2M richer. He's' the Man. Missed watching the fight though.. aurrrggghhh ;(
Sunday after mass was buffet at Chart House with Jay-Jovi-Jenna and Ross-Lali-kids. Ross was "persuaded" to pick up the tab. Cora and I went to Shakopee afterwards to check out Winwood's housing project. There's a lot overlooking a pond and wetlands with a trail. Nice view. My concern is it's a mix-use community with commercial area along it's fringes, townhomes and detached townhouses in another area. Resale value might be affected as mentioned by one realtor. Need a second opinion.

A Struggle
A short poem inspired by and dedicated to a friend trying to wrestle free himself from an emotion and situation bereft of a happy ending. I told him to let go. "It's nothing" he told me so.

Nothing to Struggle

He saw you first time
Long braided hair, denim pants
Young, spirited sneaker shoed girl
It was nothing

Time passed working
Just a nod, a smile
Short greetings, small talks
It was nothing

Unknown beginning
The attraction and caring
Beauty noticed without knowing
It was indiscernible yet compelling

Time passed working
Just a nod, a smile
Short greetings, small talks
Hoping it has deeper meaning

Why hope when it is wrong
For commitment is long gone
Years are different apart
It’s a struggle

Reason the emotion
Understand the situation
Forget the attraction
It’s a struggle

Crying for an end
Yet wishing to tend
Praying for wisdom
Yet hoping to blossom

It’s an arduous struggle

Week Past
Started my overnight shift last week. Learned to operate the mobile scissor jack thingy. It's faster to count the items up on the steel. You don't have to drop the items to count them then put it back up again. Saves a lot of time. But if you fear heights this not for you. It goes all the way up the store's ceiling and the building is about two and half stories high.
I'm still trying to adjust on my "day" sleep pattern. Overnight assignment would suit the vampires just fine. Reminds me of Count Dracula in Sesame Street. I'm "counting" hours be it day (sleep) or night (how many more hours to get done). Ho ho ho...not good...not good at all.
Cora and I went house hunting this Saturday. She had this urge to sell the house simply because. If ever, this will be our third house that we're moving into. The first was when we sold our house in Quezon City to my brother when we moved here in MN. Hopefully it'll be the last...but then...you can never tell.

Overnight
Store inventory would be next month. Equivalent to the "Superbowl" of stores as one manager puts it. I was "requested", just like last year, if I could help in the pre-inventory count. That means I have to work overnight starting tonight from 9:00 pm to 5:30 am. It would be a change of pace since it would be quiet and I would be working by myself less the stress of customer complaints, requests and what have you. Still my biorhythm will go askew again for this month. Sleepless in MN.

"GROSS"
"Gross!". This made me laugh.
My wife and I attended a UP Alumni reunion of sort late this afternoon (for those residing within 30 m radius of Mpls I guess) at the De Guzman's residence. It was the first time that we attended such gathering. Most already knew each other and it was not a big group. After the customary introductions, how are you(s) and short talks you run out of topics and there is that awkward silence. So you excuse yourself on the pretext to get food or drink and meander and try to strike up another conversation. Polite. After doing that for sometime I caught Dante (the host) at his home theater room setting up a movie for the kids. I decided to join these kids in watching a Disney Movie "Sky HIgh" to "escape" the party's "civilities" for a while. So there I was watching this scene where the lead characters portraying husband and wife kissed each other while preparing to leave for work. Suddenly this 4 or 5 year old kid uttered "Gross!". I just had to laugh. A kid's perspective on life. Simple, innocent, straight. A far cry from the on going party upstairs. No, I didn't finish the movie. I had to go up again and be an adult. Shucks.

December 24, 2005 Celebration
Media Noche
Jet and Annette Macariola's Residence
After Media Noche Game: Girls vs Boys: Name that Movie Guesstures

The guys won this game. Just looking at the pictures with the girls straining their necks to guess the gestures while the guys were having a laugh and being cool was a no contest.

Noche Buena at Home

Pointwest Tech "kids" celebrating Noche Buena. These "kids" are on "rotation". Assigned 6 to 8 months in MN to finish a project. To most it's their first time to be away from home and a Christmas at that. So the wifey-boss invited them to spend Noche Buena at home to lessen the effect of homesickness. This is not the whole group. Some went to sightsee and experience Christmas in NY.

A toast for the Birthday Celebrant. The usual games and videoke followed afterwards. This small party was done by 3:45 a.m. Kids have all the energy. I snuck into bed at 2:00 Zzzzzzzzz.....
